A heartwarming gesture from renowned author James Patterson has brought holiday cheer to local bookstore employees. Patterson, known for his philanthropy in the literary community, has awarded $500 bonuses to around 600 employees at independent bookstores nationwide, including Laura Meredith from Newnan Book Company in Newnan, GA. This initiative, part of Patterson's ongoing effort to support the crucial role of booksellers, began in 2015 and has since been a beacon of support for those in the book industry. Patterson's commitment extends beyond financial aid, as he continuously acknowledges the vital contributions of booksellers to the literary world

Cold case still plagues local mother and detectives 12 years later.

A cold case involving the tragic death of 17-year-old Blake Chappelle, who vanished in 2011 after a homecoming dance at East Coweta High School, is gaining renewed attention. Found shot in a Newnan creek two months post-disappearance, the mystery of Blake's death remains unsolved. On the 12th anniversary of this heartbreaking event, police are intensifying their efforts, assigning an additional detective to the case. They are focusing on following up on an anonymous tip received via two letters believed to be from the same individual. Detective Marcos Gonzalez has urged the anonymous tipster to come forward again, hopeful that a new lead might emerge.

Melissa Chappelle, Blake’s mother, has been enduring the pain of her son's unsolved murder for over a decade. The family is actively raising funds to hire a private investigator, seeking closure and the truth about Blake's untimely demise. Melissa's plea for information and the police's renewed determination underscore the community's ongoing quest for justice in this unresolved case. Our thoughts are with the family.
