Community and History Merge in Senoia's Museum Renovation Celebration

The Senoia Area Historical Society is set to host a ribbon-cutting event on Saturday, January 13th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Senoia Historical Museum. This event marks the culmination of the Carmichael Initiative, a significant remodeling project of the museum and society's offices, located in the historic Carmichael house from the 1870s era, at 6 Couch Street in the Historic District of Senoia, Georgia.

Under the leadership of SAHS board president Steve Maloy, the initiative focused on replacing the siding, doors, and windows of the Carmichael house, closely replicating the original 1870s style and materials. This was made possible by a generous donation of about 19,000 linear feet of pine wood from 110- to 140-year-old yellow pine trees, used to duplicate the original siding of the building. Additionally, repairs were made to the brick foundation pillars and underpinning, and an extension was converted into a 15' x 35' meeting room, available for public rental.

The project received substantial support from various personal and corporate donors, including major sponsors like Carl E. Smith Building Products, Ellis Crook, Greg Crook, Norcom Inc, and several individuals and families. The efforts of numerous volunteers and tradespersons also played a crucial role in the renovation.

The SAHS, dedicated to securing, preserving, and promoting the community's social and cultural history, initiated this renovation as part of a broader capital improvement project. The goal was to raise funds for the renovation of the Carmichael house, which houses the historical museum. The public is encouraged to support this initiative through donations, with details available on the SAHS website.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony invites the public to join the festivities, which include museum tours and servings of hot dogs, hamburgers, and refreshments. Expected attendees include local dignitaries such as Mayor Dub Pearman, members of the Senoia City Council, Police Chief Edens, and other notable figures

Explore 8 of the South's Hidden Winter Hiking Gems: Featuring Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Across the Southern United States, numerous hiking trails that are popular in summer and fall take on a special charm during the winter months. As trees shed their foliage, expansive vistas stretching for miles become visible. Cooler weather not only reduces the number of visitors but also deters unwelcome wildlife. Moreover, the occasional snowfall adds to the allure. The following seven parks stand out as enchanting choices for hiking in the winter season.

Chattahoochee Bend, less frequented compared to other parks near Atlanta, presents hikers with the beauty of granite outcrops amidst a riverside forest. In winter, the bare branches of trees reveal unobstructed views of the shimmering Chattahoochee River. As you explore, look for the vibrant hues of winter berries and the lively presence of woodpeckers. Following your hike, a visit to downtown Newnan is a must, where you can enjoy any of the restaurants or cafes for a snack and a drink. Discover more here…
