The Path of a Leader: Key Locations in Martin Luther King Jr.'s Life
Martin Luther King Jr.'s life journey took him from his roots in Atlanta to various key locations in the Civil Rights Movement across the United States and abroad, including significant events like the Montgomery Bus Boycott and receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.

King's impact extended beyond the U.S., as seen in Oslo, Norway, where he received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his commitment to nonviolent protest. Each of these destinations offers a unique glimpse into King's life and legacy:
Atlanta: Ebenezer Baptist Church, where King was baptized, ordained, and later served as a co-pastor.
Dublin: First African Baptist Church, where King gave his first public speech.
Upland PA: Crozer Theological Seminary, where King pursued theological studies.
Boston: Boston University School of Theology, where King earned his doctorate and met his wife, Coretta Scott.
Montgomery: Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, from where he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Harlem: Site of a near-fatal stabbing incident at Blumstein department store.
Birmingham: Birmingham City Jail, where King wrote his seminal "Letter from Birmingham Jail."
Washington, D.C.: Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech.
St. Augustine: Monson Motor Lodge Restaurant, a site of civil rights protests.
Oslo, Norway: University of Oslo, where King received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Memphis: Lorraine Motel, the site of King's assassination.

Harriett Alexander Art House Celebrates Over Four Decades of Nurturing Young Talent: Spring Registration Open
The Harriett Alexander Art House has long been a creative hub for the youth of Newnan and Coweta County, thanks to the enduring Young Artists of Newnan & Coweta County program. This initiative, which began over 40 years ago, was the brainchild of Mrs. Bette Hickman, affectionately known as Miss Bette. In 1999, Mrs. Teri Lewis, or Miss Teri, became an integral part of the program. The Coweta County Parks & Recreation Department has been a steadfast sponsor since the program's early days.
In recognition of the program's significant impact, the Coweta County Board of Commission honored The Young Artists of Newnan & Coweta County and Miss Bette with a proclamation in March 2019. This acknowledgment was further celebrated with the establishment of the Outside Art Classroom/Pavilion in April 2022, a testament to the program's success and the community's commitment to fostering artistic growth in its youth.
