From Darkness to Light: Managing Seasonal Affective Disorder Effectively

As winter sets in, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that typically occurs during specific seasons, most commonly in fall or winter, has been a topic of increasing discussion and concern. The condition is believed to be triggered by shorter days and less daylight, leading to chemical changes in the brain. Symptoms can range from increased sleep and daytime drowsiness to feelings of guilt and hopelessness. It often starts in adulthood and is more prevalent in women.

The causes of SAD are thought to be linked to reduced sunlight and shorter days, affecting the brain's chemistry. Additionally, the hormone melatonin, which is produced in greater quantities in darkness, is also associated with SAD. The disorder manifests in two forms: fall-onset, known as "winter depression," and the less common spring-onset or "summer depression."

Diagnosis involves a thorough mental health examination and medical history, as depression can coexist with other conditions. Treatment options for SAD include light therapy, antidepressants, and psychotherapy. Simple lifestyle changes, such as spending time outdoors, exercising, and maintaining a healthy diet, can also aid in alleviating symptoms. It's important to seek professional help if symptoms of depression are noticed, as early intervention can lead to more effective management of the condition. Learn more here…

A Tapestry of Events

The Moreland Event Committee is known for its rich mosaic of community activities. Their events are a colorful blend of cultural, social, and culinary experiences that cater to all ages. From the enchanting Night Market to heartwarming photos with Santa, each event is a testament to the committee's dedication to bringing people together.

One of the highlights is their community meals and BBQs, which are not just about food but about creating a space where neighbors become friends. Their art and craft festivals showcase local talents, turning Moreland into a canvas of creativity and craftsmanship. The food truck events and trunk or treat gatherings are especially popular, offering a taste of fun and adventure.

A Delightful Community Dinner, Showcasing Moreland's Spirited Togetherness

An upcoming event that captures the essence of the committee's efforts is The Moreland Community Dinner, where residents can enjoy a meal catered by Food For Thought Catering. While the menu promises a delightful culinary journey, it's not just a dinner; it's an experience of community bonding, where you can bring your own bottle, share stories, and create memories. The delightful evening of festivities will be held at The Old Moreland Mill.

The dinner menu is a cornucopia of flavors, thoughtfully crafted to cater to a variety of palates. The star of the show is the grilled chicken bathed in a zesty lemon cream sauce, a dish that promises to be both comforting and exotic. For those who favor the rich, savory notes, the chopped steak with caramelized onions and gravy is a must-try.

Accompanying these hearty entrees are sides that evoke the feeling of a home-cooked meal: creamy mashed potatoes, rich and cheesy macaroni and cheese, and sautéed green beans that add a fresh crunch to the plate. Soft, warm rolls and a surprise dessert round out the meal, ensuring that every diner leaves with a satisfied smile.

Understanding the diverse dietary preferences of the Moreland community, the event also offers a vegan option. The veggie lentil loaf with smoky chipotle sauce is more than just an alternative; it's a testament to the committee's commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that every member of the community feels welcome and catered to.

At $20 for adults and $12 for children under 10, this community dinner is not just about the food. It's an invitation to gather, to share stories, and to strengthen the bonds that make Moreland a special place. The BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) aspect adds a personal touch to the evening, allowing guests to bring a bit of their home to the communal table.

Looking Ahead

The Moreland Event Committee's future plans are as exciting as their past endeavors. They aim to introduce community tea gatherings and craft fairs, along with a variety of holiday events. These new initiatives promise to further enrich the communal tapestry of Moreland and the surrounding communities, bringing more opportunities for residents to connect and celebrate together.

CVS Announces Closure of Select Pharmacies Inside Target Stores

The retail landscape continues to face significant challenges, with major stores and restaurants undergoing closures and bankruptcies. This trend has now extended to the pharmacy sector. Recently, CVS announced further closures, impacting some of their pharmacies located within Target stores.

This development comes nearly a decade after CVS acquired Target's pharmacy business for $1.9 billion. A CVS spokesperson explained that these closures are part of a strategic plan to adjust their national retail presence. The decision is driven by factors such as population shifts, changing consumer purchasing behaviors, and evolving health needs. This move aims to optimize pharmacy locations to better serve patients. The closure process is set to start next month and conclude by the end of April. While the exact number of affected pharmacies remains undisclosed, reports suggest it will involve dozens of CVS locations inside Target stores.

For customers, this means prescriptions at the closing Target CVS pharmacies will be transferred to nearby CVS stores in advance of the closures. CVS is also committed to supporting its employees affected by these changes, offering them comparable roles within the company. However, CVS has not released a list of the specific pharmacies that will be closing.
