Arnco-Sargent Elementary Embraces the Spirit of Giving with a Heartwarming Shoe Drive
In the heart of Coweta County, Arnco-Sargent Elementary School (ASE) is spearheading a compassionate community initiative with its shoe drive service project. This effort, in partnership with the non-profit organization One Roof, aims to provide new shoes to children in need this winter. The project is inspired by the school's January book selection, "Those Shoes," which tells the story of a young boy learning the value of kindness and the things he already has, such as warm boots, a loving grandma, and opportunities to help others.
Emphasizing the importance of giving during Poverty Awareness Month, ASE encourages families and community members to contribute new pairs of tennis shoes. These donations can be made at the ASE front office until January 31st. To ensure a wide range of children benefit from this charitable act, the school suggests donating specific sizes, as indicated in their detailed announcement.
They are also accepting donations of gently used kids shows in all sizes as well. Anyone wishing to donate can do so.
Coweta Co Prison Guard Faces Charges After Threatening Students over Bullying

In Newnan, Georgia, a concerning incident unfolded when a local prison guard, Kristopher Douglas Elder, was arrested for making threats to students on a school bus. Elder, a 37-year-old correctional officer from Coweta County, boarded the bus and confronted the children over allegations of bullying his son. He flashed a badge and threatened to use handcuffs, alarming the students and the bus driver, who had to pull over to calm them down.
The incident, captured by the bus's surveillance cameras, occurred on the morning of January 12 and involved students from Northside Elementary School. Elder, asserting his law enforcement status, warned the students about bullying being illegal and threatened to have them arrested. The bus driver and the school's principal, Amy Addison, responded promptly to the situation, with Addison expressing shock at Elder's actions and contacting the sheriff's office.
A letter was sent home to parents encouraging communication with the school administration regarding any concerns. The school system emphasized its commitment to investigating bullying seriously. Meanwhile, the Coweta State Prison, where Elder is employed, confirmed his detention officer status and assured cooperation with the sheriff's office in the ongoing investigation, stating that such behavior is unacceptable.
