West Georgia Technical College Proudly Announces Knightro as Official Mascot
West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) has unveiled a new mascot, Knightro the Knighthawk, marking a significant shift from their decade-long association with the Golden Knights. This change stems from a desire to establish a more unifying and resonant symbol for the college community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The mascot's inception was a collaborative effort led by WGTC's marketing and communications department, involving faculty and staff in the selection process. The choice of a nighthawk was strategic, reflecting traits such as adaptability, diligence, resourcefulness, and determination, which are seen as reflective of the WGTC community.
Amy Dollar, the Director of Marketing & Communications, expressed enthusiasm about Knightro, emphasizing the goal of creating a strong, recognizable brand that instills pride both within and beyond the college walls. The mascot's design and development were entrusted to Lime Biscuit Creative, a Carrollton-based branding expert. Their collaboration with WGTC's mascot committee led to the creation of a unique design that embodies the hard work and resilience of WGTC's community.
The introduction of Knightro to faculty, staff, and students has been phased, with a full mascot uniform set to debut publicly later in the year. WGTC plans to incorporate Knightro in various campus and community events, enhancing the college's spirit and identity.
Dr. Julie Post, WGTC President, sees Knightro as more than just a mascot; it represents a rallying point, a source of inspiration, and a symbol of the college's collective journey. The introduction of Knightro aligns with WGTC's commitment to fostering pride and connection among its community members.
WGTC, serving multiple counties in Georgia, offers over 120 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs. As part of the Technical College System of Georgia, it stands as one of the state’s largest technical colleges.
